No National Competition in 2025
For the 2024-25 school year, Esri is not hosting a national ArcGIS Online Schools Competition. However, we have encouraged all state competition leaders from last year to run a local contest. Find information about the organizers of your state competition in 2023-2024 and reach out to them about this year's competition.
Esri and the National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE) challenge US students to conduct and share a research project about something in their home state. The ArcGIS Online Competition is open to high school ("HS," gr.9-12) and middle school ("MS," gr.4-8) students in participating states in the US who can gather, create, analyze, interpret, and present data via an ArcGIS StoryMap.

In 2024, 42 states participated, with 36 receiving 387 entries in total. See breakouts below and explore the dashboard to see entries.

Free ArcGIS software for schools and clubs
In addition to free instructional resources requiring no login, Esri offers to all K12 schools, districts, and formal youth-serving clubs the ArcGIS School Bundle for free for instructional use, around the world. The bundle is anchored by an ArcGIS Online Organization, and includes a fleet of supporting tools. In USA, see esri.com/schools for info. Beyond USA, see your Esri distributor.
